In March 2021, European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) was awarded the contract for the sales of fuel emission allowances in the national Emissions Trading Scheme (nEHS) by the German Federal Environment Agency.
EEX and ECC have introduced a special membership form for direct participation in the nEHS market: nEHS-DCP. Further access options for nEHS market are presented here.
The nEHS-DCP membership is strictly limited to the participation in nEHS transactions.
Delivery of nEHS-certificates
Sell-off of the nEHS certificates takes place according to a specified calendar of the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA). Delivery of the certificates within the UBA Registry takes place one day after the respective sell-off. Further information is available here.
During the admission process, nEHS-DCP customers need to specify a bank account that will be used to transfer the purchase price for the nEHS certificates to ECC. Any transfer from an account other than the one specified upon admission will be rejected by ECC and will not be used to fulfil payment obligations in respect of the sell-off of nEHS certificates. Please clarify any bank limits on transfers with your commercial bank in good time.
DCP-nEHS participants need to make their payment to the account designated by ECC no later than 11 a.m. CET on the day of the next but one sales date (this may differ for the last sales date in December). nEHS certificates will be delivered at latest on the second business day after receipt of the payment. In case this date falls on a T2 holiday, the deadline will be postponed accordingly to the following ECC business day.
No limit applies to DCP-nEHS participants. However, the delivery of the nEHS certificates will only take place after the payment has been made.
