Built on trust. Growing together.

European Commodity Clearing (ECC) is a leading clearing house for energy and commodity markets worldwide. As a central counterparty, we ensure that every transaction is secure, reliable and efficiently settled – enabling markets to operate with confidence.

Since our foundation in 2006 as a spin-off from the European Energy Exchange (EEX), our mission has remained clear: to strengthen markets through robust risk management, operational excellence and trusted partnerships.

“Over the past 20 years, ECC has grown alongside its customers, partners and colleagues, built on trust, resilience and a shared ambition to strengthen the markets we serve. I sincerely thank our clearing members, market participants, partner exchanges and stakeholders for their trust and collaboration. My special thanks also go to our teams – past and present – whose dedication made this journey possible.”

A journey of growth and resilience

From day one, ECC has been built on strong partnerships – with exchanges, clearing members, transmission system operators and market participants. Our expertise in the physical settlement of commodities quickly became a defining strength and remains a cornerstone of our services today.

As markets have grown more complex and volatile, ECC has continuously evolved. Especially during times of stress – such as the energy crisis of 2022 – we played a stabilising role by ensuring the fulfilment of all transactions and maintaining confidence across the market.

Today, ECC clears a broad range of products, from intraday to long-term maturities, serving a global network of more than 1,000 members through seven partner exchanges worldwide.

    Looking ahead

As markets continue to evolve, ECC remains committed to strengthening the resilience of its clearing services. In an environment shaped by volatility, technological change and regulatory demands, we continue to enhance our risk management framework – delivering even greater precision, transparency and reliability.

Together, we look forward to supporting stable, efficient and trusted markets for many years to come.
