Auction markets to follow in 2026
Paris, Riga, Tallin, Vilnius, Leipzig, 26 November 2025 - The European Power Exchange EPEX SPOT and its clearing house European Commodity Clearing (ECC) have successfully launched their Intraday continuous offering in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The first trading day was 25 November 2025. The extension of EPEX SPOT’s and ECC’s services is possible thanks to the preliminary implementation of a Multi-NEMO Arrangement, building the framework for more than one spot power exchange to be active in the Baltic region, in line with the EU Guideline on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM).
“While heated debates are taking place on the political stage about the way forward for European Power markets, we show the way through action: Competition among power exchanges has been working well for a decade. The Baltic region represents the third initiative of EPEX SPOT, after the Nordics and Poland, to enlarge the geographical scope of our trading suite. This unlocks more product diversity for market participants, more opportunities for cross-border trading and market liquidity and more robustness for the power system,” comments Jean-François Conil-Lacoste, Chief Executive Officer of EPEX SPOT.
Clearing and settlement are completed by EPEX SPOT’s trusted clearing house ECC.
Dr. Tobias Paulun, CEO of ECC, adds: “With this new market launch, market participants active across the Baltic and Nordic region as well as Poland will benefit from robust and reliable clearing processes. We always strive to offer services tailored to the specific needs of the trading community, be it spot or derivatives markets.”
The Intraday Continuous Market allows for up-to-real-time trading of electricity, helping to better integrate renewable energy, enhance grid stability, and enable market participants to manage their portfolios with greater flexibility. The launch of EPEX SPOT’s power trading offering in the region provides access for market participants to a wider and innovative product range, high-performing trading systems, robust market operations, while being integrated into the EU-wide Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC).
Overall, this launch aims at further developing the market liquidity and efficiency in the region.
EPEX SPOT operates the number one Intraday Market in Europe, covering 16 countries including both coupled and local markets across the continent: the Baltics, Central Western Europe, Great Britain, the Nordics, Poland, and Switzerland. In 2026, EPEX SPOT and ECC will further extend their product portfolio in the Baltics with the launch of Day-Ahead and Intraday Auction markets, completing their power trading offering in the region.
In this initiative, EPEX SPOT is supported by GET Baltic, part of EEX Group, leveraging the company’s long-standing presence and experience in the Baltic States and Finland.
